WALL HANGING HUTCH

A drawing by Gustav Stickle (a prominent Craftsman Style furniture maker from the early 1900’s) inspired this small hutch. It is made of quarter-sawn white oak. It is dyed and stained to bring out the desired color. Several coats of a tung oil based finish and two coats of hard past wax follow this. This gives it a long lasting, durable, satin look.

The hinges are top quality extruded brass. Along with the cast brass knobs, they are given an antique oil rubbed patina.

I used sliding dovetails in its construction to secure the top and bottom to the sides and partitions. It has “seeded” glass (little air bubbles in the glass) in the leaded glass panels in the doors.

This is an ideal place to keep some of those great old books you’ve collected over the years but are storing in a box in the closet. My original design for this hutch as pictured in “Fine Woodworking”, June 2005 pg. 89, had the two side compartments fitted with CD racks and the center was sized for DVD’s.

The CD racks in the side compartments are an option you can choose as an add on. They will provide space to hold twenty CD’s in each side.

The overall dimensions of this hutch are:
42 1/2" wide X 12 3/4" high X 11” deep

The inside dimensions are:
10 3/4" wide X 6 7/8” high (useable space) X 8 1/8” deep (L & R compartments behind doors)
15” wide X 8 5/8” high (useable space) X 8 1/8” deep (center compartment behind door)
